Electrical warning signs before the AC goes down

Air conditioners are often the first appliance to expose a weak breaker or a loose connection. These are the signs to stop resetting and start calling.

Stop resetting these

A breaker that trips more than once, especially when the condenser starts. A panel that buzzes, smells warm, or shows discoloration. An outlet that is hot to the touch. Flickering lights that track the AC cycle.

Why it shows up in summer

The condenser is one of the largest loads in the house. A connection that was marginal in January is a voltage drop in August. That drop cooks motors. The repair is cheaper at the breaker than at the compressor.
