Duct sealing or duct cleaning: which one do you need?
They get booked as the same job. They are not. One pulls debris out of the runs. The other closes the holes that dump cooled air into the attic.
Book a cleaning when
The supply boot is coated, the fan kicks out a puff of dust, or a renovation left drywall dust in the lines. That is ductwork cleaning. It will not open a crushed flex line, and it will not dry a wet coil. If the startup smells musty, have the drain checked first.
Book sealing or a repair when
One room never cools, you can see a gap where the flex meets the boot, or the return is pulling hot attic air. Sealing closes joints that are open. Repair replaces or reconnects a run that fell off or collapsed. A light coat of anything over intact duct is not a repair.
The honest order
If the lines are dirty and leaking, cleaning and sealing can be the same visit. They are priced as two jobs so you can say no to either one. From Winter Garden we see both in the same attic more often than a house that needs only one.
