Why your AC keeps icing up in Florida humidity
Ice on the copper line or a frozen coil is an airflow or charge problem. Running it anyway is how blowers and compressors die.
Check the filter first
A packed filter stops air from crossing the evaporator. The coil gets too cold, moisture freezes, and the ice spreads. Replace the filter. If the system is already a block of ice, turn it off and let it thaw before you restart.
If the filter was clean
Low refrigerant from a leak, a failing blower, or closed vents in too many rooms can do the same thing. That is a repair call. Do not keep adding gas every summer without a leak search.
While you wait
Set the fan to on only if the indoor coil needs help thawing, and do not run cooling mode on a frozen coil. Water from the melt should go to the drain, not into the drywall. If it does not, say so when you call. An iced coil in October is still an airflow or charge problem. It is not the heat strips, and it is not the first cold night.
